Obama Upbeat in First Speech to Congress

I will add two comments posted on Youtube to this video to highlight the controversial reception of Obama's speech and his first couple of weeks in office.

"Obama is off to a very Bad Start for a number of reasons;

#1 Failing to veto the Totally BS Spending Bill!
#2 Failure to replace Gibbs!
#3 Failure to nominate a qualified Commerce Secretary which also includes former WA State Gov Gary Lock as one of the worse picks ever!
#4 Failure to allow the Market in a Free Enterprise Capitalist Society to work!
#5 Failure to investigate, audit, seize and sell the assets of totally failed Businesses, Companies, Corporations and Institutions!

TOTAL FAILURE!"

"Total failure? Only those who believe that choose not to see what he's done which is positive. For example, he signed a bill to help prevent foreclosures. He has also done a lot to prevent lobbying in the white house and he even has ordered to closure of Guantanamo Bay. give him some time. He's only been in office for five weeks. Has the patience in America really grown that thin?"

  1. Having listening to the speech, and read through it pretty closely, I think it was pretty impressive.

    The simple fact is no one is sure what will work at the moment and Barack Obama has been left a terrible mess by George Bush. His recovery plan looks very comprehensive and considered. And we just have hope it will work.

    In Britain, we have had similar packages though not of the same size. Only if the US package succeeds will ours.

    As for the Republic response from Bobby Jindal, the less said the better. He doesn't seem to be presenting any viable alternative.

  2. OK. As a native Washingtonian, and a Democrat, I will admit a little bias, but what's your beef with Gary Locke?

    The man is sharp as tacks, is a detail guy who enjoys wading through thick policy documents, and has as good a trade portfolio as anyone in the country. Remember that Washington state is, in terms of $ per capita, Americas biggest exporter.

    Gary's failings as a human being are that he's a terrible politician in the twisting arms and kissing babies tradition. The man has no stage presence. He doesn't fire people up or give a good speech.

    Tim Eyman (a charismatic showman without two brain cells to rub together) held him and the Washington State budget hostage for the better part of 6 years until Locke stepped off the stage, and the current governor stepped on.

    Twisting arms and kissing babies is not the job of the commerce secretary. Not only do I think he'll do well in that position, several of the Republican grandees in Washington have said the same thing.
